'The Alters' Game Gets Release Date

The sci-fi survival strategy game "The Alters" will launch on June 13 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, including day one availability on Xbox Game Pass. This exciting news was revealed by developer 11 Bit Studios, also known for Frostpunk 2, during the recent Triple-I Initiative showcase.

In this game, you play as Jan Dolski, a space miner stranded on a hostile planet after a crash-landed expedition. To survive, Jan must pilot a massive, wheel-shaped mobile base to outrun deadly solar radiation, as the planet slowly turns toward a lethal sun.

The core mechanic revolves around creating "Alters"—alternate versions of Jan (clones), each shaped by different life choices, using a substance called Rapidium and a quantum computer. These Alters have unique skills, personalities, and emotional needs based on diverging paths, like pursuing engineering over relationships or staying in his hometown. For example, a scientist Alter might research new tech, while a tougher Alter excels at exploration.

The newest trailer shows how challenging managing these different versions can be. For example, one scene features a Botanist Jan who neglects food production because he's focused on contacting his wife. In another part, a Miner Jan struggles with his mental health after injuries and eventually cuts off his own arm.

The game isn't limited to just staying inside a space station. Players will need to explore the dangerous planet to find resources and build structures like bridges to help with their escape plans.

As the developer 11 bit studios explains, players must handle both individual Alters and the group as a whole to maintain smooth operations. The decisions you make affect not just Jan's personal journey but the entire team's chance of survival.

The game has been generating excitement since its first announcement trailer, with its unique premise of exploring different life choices through multiple versions of the same character. The gameplay combines survival elements with strategy and exploration in a dystopian future setting.
