The Division 2 is set to receive a new extraction-based survival mode called “Survivors,” with Ubisoft confirming development is currently in its "early stages."

Ubisoft made the reveal during Gamescom 2025, outlining plans to bring back the survival extraction experience that fans of the franchise may remember from the original The Division back in 2016. That earlier mode was considered a pioneering step for the extraction genre, mixing environmental survival mechanics with tense PvP encounters. While other titles like Escape from Tarkov carried the genre forward, Ubisoft’s flagship shooter hasn’t revisited the concept — until now.

The new mode, officially titled The Division 2: Survivors, is being developed under the direction of Magnus Jansén, a veteran creative director who worked on the first Division as well as Far Cry 3 and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Ubisoft has described Survivors as “an updated take on the survival extraction experience,” suggesting it won’t simply rehash the original but instead build upon it with fresh elements designed for today’s multiplayer audience. Jansén has said it’s “more than a remake” and they’re “doing cool new things,” with the biggest clue being “right there in the name.”

“The Division 2: Survivors is as much your baby as it is ours,” Executive producer Julian Gerighty said during the Gamescom panel, adding that clear communication and close community involvement are priorities for the team as they shape this next chapter.

For now, Ubisoft hasn’t shared gameplay footage, but it did release several pieces of concept art, teasing settings and scenarios that hint at the return of hazardous weather, resource gathering, and helicopter extractions. The mode currently has no firm release date, though Ubisoft is aiming for a 2026 launch.

In addition to Survivors, Ubisoft also updated players on the wider Division franchise. The Elite Task Program is set to be refreshed, offering dedicated fans a chance to contribute directly to development feedback. Meanwhile, The Division Resurgence — the mobile free-to-play RPG shooter set after the events of the first game — is preparing for closed tests on both iOS and Android. Ubisoft says Resurgence will not only adapt familiar gameplay for mobile but also expand the lore by bridging the story between The Division and The Division 2.
