The MongolZ have claimed their biggest tournament victory to date, defeating Turkish side Aurora 3-0 in the Grand Final of the Counter-Strike 2 Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC 2025).
The win in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, not only secures them the $500,000 grand prize but also marks the Mongolian squad’s most significant step forward in their competitive journey.
The team’s campaign began strongly, as they brushed aside GamerLegion with a confident 2-0 performance.
Moving into the quarter-finals, they faced 3DMAX, a French team riding high after eliminating NAVI. Despite dropping one map, The MongolZ bounced back on Nuke to seal a 2-1 victory, proving their composure under pressure.
Their toughest battle came in the semifinals against long-time rivals Vitality. Earlier this year, Vitality had denied them a title at the BLAST.tv Austin Major, but this time The MongolZ turned the tables. In a close three-map series, they secured another 2-1 win, knocking out one of the tournament favorites and showing just how far they had come since their previous defeats.
The Grand Final against Aurora was billed as a clash between two underdogs who had upset the odds to reach this stage. However, once the match began, it was clear that The MongolZ were in a league of their own. With Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold leading the charge and massive contributions from Sodbayar “Techno” Munkhbold, Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren, and Ayush “mzinho” Batbold, Aurora were left with little room to breathe. The series ended with decisive scorelines of 16-14 on Mirage, 13-9 on Dust2, and 13-4 on Nuke, sealing a dominant 3-0 sweep.
Techno’s impressive performance earned the MVP award, adding an extra $10,000 to the team’s winnings.
For The MongolZ, this success builds on their second-place finish at BLAST Bounty Season 2 and their YaLLa Compass 2024 victory, establishing them as a serious force in CS2’s competitive scene.
Elsewhere, the third-place playoff saw Saudi Arabia’s Team Falcons defeat Vitality 2-1, though the result had little effect on the Club Championship standings. Vitality’s fourth-place finish meant they missed out on a chance to close the gap on Team Liquid for additional club prize money.
In total, the EWC 2025 CS2 event had a $1.25 million prize pool. Here's how it's distributed:
