The Occultist Launch Guide: Release Times, Price, and Everything You Need to Know

A new first-person psychological horror game called The Occultist is set to release on April 8, 2026, developed by DALOAR and published by Daedalic Entertainment.

The game puts players in the shoes of a paranormal investigator exploring a cursed island filled with dark secrets and supernatural threats. If you are a fan of slow-burn horror with a strong narrative, this one might be worth keeping an eye on.

What Is the Game About?

You play as Alan Rebels, voiced by Doug Cockle, widely known for his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series. Alan is a paranormal investigator who travels to a remote British island called Godstone after his father mysteriously disappears.

The island is not your typical vacation spot. It is soaked in occult rituals, supernatural entities, and buried family secrets that slowly come to the surface as you progress.

The story explores personal trauma, moral dilemmas, and the cost of helping the dead at the expense of the living. Multiple endings add replay value, and the narrative is clearly the centerpiece of the experience.

Gameplay and Mechanics

The Occultist is strictly single-player. There is no multiplayer or co-op mode of any kind.

The gameplay revolves around exploration, environmental puzzles, and investigation rather than action or combat.

Your main tool throughout the game is a mystical Pendulum. It reacts to what the game calls Ethereal Echoes, which reveal past events, hidden clues, and solutions to puzzles scattered across the environment.

Expect a lot of foggy streets, abandoned buildings, and stealth segments where you avoid or outmaneuver supernatural threats. The emphasis is on atmosphere, sound design, and psychological dread.

The estimated campaign length sits between 8 and 15 hours, depending on how thoroughly you explore.

Platforms and Editions

The game launches on the following platforms:

  • PS5

  • Xbox Series X and Series S

  • PC via Steam and Epic Games Store

There is no Switch version and no last-gen support.

Two editions are available at launch:

  • Standard Edition at $29.99, which includes the base game

  • Digital Deluxe Edition at $39.99, which adds a 200-page digital artbook and the complete digital soundtrack composed by Pepe Herrero

No physical collector's edition has been announced.

Release Time by Region

The game launches simultaneously worldwide on April 8, 2026. Here are the unlock times by region:

  • New York: 1:00 PM EDT

  • Los Angeles: 10:00 AM PDT

  • London: 6:00 PM BST

  • Singapore: 1:00 AM SGT (April 9)

  • Tokyo: 2:00 AM JST (April 9)

  • Sydney: 3:00 AM AEST (April 9)

As per reports from early previews, The Occultist draws comparisons to games like Layers of Fear and The Dark Pictures series in terms of narrative style, while its investigation tools bring to mind lighter elements of Fatal Frame and Call of Cthulhu.

There is currently no confirmation of day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass, PS Plus, or any other subscription service. It is expected to be a standard premium purchase.
