The Witcher 3 Is Getting Cross-Platform Mod Support in Final Major Update

The Witcher 3

Polish game developer CD Projekt RED has announced one last surprise for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt fans as it continues celebrating the RPG’s 10th anniversary — a final update in 2025 that introduces cross-platform mod support for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

A Decade Later, The Witcher 3 Gets Cross-Platform Modding

Since its launch in 2015, The Witcher 3 has stood as a gold standard in fantasy RPGs. While PC players have long enjoyed mods — ranging from improved visuals to fan-made quests — console players were left out. That’s now changing.

In an official blog post, CD Projekt RED confirmed that the game’s final update will enable mod integration across all modern platforms, using mod.io as the centralized platform.

Mod.io is the same tool powering mod support in games like Baldur’s Gate 3, and it will make managing and installing mods much easier across devices.

How Will It Work?

  • Free for all users

  • Requires a mod.io account linked to your CD Projekt RED account

  • Mods will be curated for console compatibility

  • Mods built using CDPR’s REDKit are most likely to be approved

  • No exact release date, but the update is coming in 2025

Because of technical constraints and console platform guidelines, not every PC mod will make the jump. However, the team says they're working to ensure a wide selection of mods are available — particularly those crafted with the official REDKit modding tools.

More on The Witcher

Alongside the modding news, CD Projekt RED revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has surpassed 60 million units sold — an achievement that places it among the best-selling video games of all time.

To further commemorate the 10th anniversary, CD Projekt RED has also released limited-edition Xbox controllers themed after The Witcher 3. These collectible accessories are already in high demand, with stock availability limited across regions.

The next chapter in the Witcher saga is already in full production. Codenamed "Polaris"The Witcher 4 is the beginning of a new trilogy and marks a major shift by making Ciri the main protagonist.
