Hypercharge: Unboxed, a shooter game where players control tiny action figures, will release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on May 30, 2025, after being available on other platforms for years.
The game puts players in the shoes of miniature action figures as they battle against enemy toys and monsters in everyday locations like kitchens and bedrooms. This unique shooter combines elements from movies like "Toy Story" and "Small Soldiers" to create what many fans describe as a childhood fantasy come true.
Digital Cybercherries, the independent development team behind Hypercharge, shared the news through their social media accounts on April 30.
"We have no publisher support. No outside funding. No huge marketing budget. Just five grown adults who made the game they wished they had as kids," stated the developers in their social media post.
The game first appeared in early access 8 years ago and has slowly expanded to multiple platforms. It was first fully released on Nintendo Switch before coming to PC and Xbox. According to Digital Cybercherries, the PlayStation release marks the final stop on their "multiplatform merry-go-round."
Joe Henson, Creative Gameplay and Marketing Director at Digital Cybercherries, explained the decision to bring the game to PlayStation: "When we released it on Xbox, the game sold over 100k units in its first month without Game Pass or a publisher - but we've had thousands of fans on social media asking us if and when it would be coming to PlayStation."
Hypercharge: Unboxed offers several ways to play. The story campaign can be enjoyed alone or with up to three friends in cooperative mode. Players work together to complete objectives and defend the "Hypercore" against waves of enemy toys. For those who prefer competition, the game also includes player-versus-player modes.
The PlayStation release will also have cross-platform support. As noted in the press release, players on PlayStation can join games with friends using PC and Xbox versions, with Nintendo Switch support planned for later.
The game supports both first-person and third-person perspectives. Local split-screen play is also available.
Hypercharge: Unboxed will be available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on May 30, 2025, priced at $29.99.
