With just a week to go before the official launch of MindsEye, two senior executives from Build a Rocket Boy—Chief Legal Officer Riley Graebner and Chief Financial Officer Paul Bland—have exited the company.
Graebner, who announced his departure on LinkedIn, said he was “proud” of his contributions during his time with the studio, noting that Build a Rocket Boy had doubled in size under his watch, growing to over 450 employees. However, he did not provide a specific reason for leaving.
Joining him in departure is Paul Bland, the company’s Chief Financial Officer, who had been with the studio for two years. The timing of both resignations—just one week before MindsEye’s June 10 release—has sparked concern among fans and industry watchers alike.
Fan Concerns and Speculation
The exits follow controversial remarks made by co-CEO Mark Gerhard, who recently claimed there is a “concerted effort” to undermine MindsEye through paid negative commentary online. Speaking in a Discord Q&A, Gerhard stated he believes “100 percent” of the negative feedback on game previews has been financially motivated. The comment came after some testers recommended delaying the game to address polish and performance issues.
Within the MindsEye community, the double executive exit has not gone unnoticed. Some fans have speculated on Discord that the departures could be linked to internal conflict or concerns about the game’s final state.
“It could be a sign of very troubling internal affairs,” one user commented, while another added, “People don’t bail right before they think they’re releasing a hit.”
Despite the internal shake-up, Build a Rocket Boy remains committed to launching MindsEye on June 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
