Ubisoft Confirms Rayman’s Future Is in the Works — But Don’t Expect News Anytime Soon

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are teaming up to work on the “future of Rayman”.

The news dropped via the official Rayman X (Twitter) account, which came back to life during the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations. In a short video message, Loic Gounon, brand producer at Ubisoft Montpellier, revealed that the two studios are collaborating on what’s next for Rayman. He kept expectations in check, though, telling fans not to expect major updates anytime soon — but reassuring them that “Rayman is in good hands.”

This is the first real acknowledgment of the series in years. The last mainline Rayman game, Rayman Legends, launched back in 2013 and is still fondly remembered for its tight platforming and gorgeous art style. Since then, Rayman has mostly been on the sidelines, aside from smaller mobile projects like Rayman Mini, while Ubisoft focused on blockbuster franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumblings of a comeback. In October 2024, Insider Gaming reported that Ubisoft had quietly started work on a Rayman remake under the codename Steambot. According to that report, development has been “going incredibly well,” with a tentative release window set for late 2026 — something this latest announcement now confirms.

And Ubisoft might be thinking even bigger. Same reports suggest that if Steambot performs well, the publisher could greenlight a brand-new sequel — Rayman 4. If it happens, don’t expect it before the end of the decade.

Rayman’s roots go all the way back to 1995, when the first game charmed players with its whimsical worlds, tricky platforming, and unique art direction. Over the years, the franchise has sold millions of copies and even spawned the wildly popular Rabbids spin-off series, which later crossed over with Nintendo in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (2017) and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (2022).

While it sounds like we’re in for a long wait, just knowing Rayman hasn’t been forgotten is enough to get fans buzzing again. The next few years will tell whether Steambot — and possibly Rayman 4 — can bring the limbless hero back to the top of the platforming world.
