The Viking survival hit Valheim is officially heading to PlayStation in 2026. Already available on PC, Mac, Linux, and Xbox Series X|S (including Game Pass), this move will finally bring the procedurally generated, co‑op adventure to Sony’s ecosystem.

Iron Gate Studio hasn’t yet confirmed which PlayStation consoles will be supported. That leaves the door open for a possible PS4 release alongside PS5, something many players will be hoping for. What we do know is that the PlayStation version will feature full cross‑play with all other platforms, so you’ll be able to raid, build, and survive with friends no matter where they play.

The port is being handled by Piktiv, the same development partner that implemented cross‑play for the Xbox release and brought the game to PC Game Pass. This frees up Iron Gate to focus on finishing Valheim’s long‑awaited 1.0 launch, which is also expected in 2026. That milestone will arrive with the game’s seventh and final biome update, Deep North.

For those who haven’t followed its journey, Valheim first entered Early Access in 2021 and quickly became a phenomenon, peaking at over 500,000 concurrent players on Steam. It sold over 10 million copies in its first year and expanded to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in March 2023, and macOS in 2024

Since then, it’s received multiple major updates, expanding its world and systems while keeping its core survival‑crafting loop intact.

It draws heavy inspiration from Norse mythology, placing players in the role of slain Vikings transported to Valheim, the tenth Norse world, a procedurally generated purgatory where they must prove their worth by building, exploring, and battling monsters to earn Odin's favor and ascend to Valhalla.

The game emphasizes brutal survival mechanics, cooperative multiplayer (supporting 1-10 players), and creative freedom, with low-poly stylized graphics and a third-person perspective. Combat draws from action games, featuring melee, archery, and boss fights, while the crafting system allows for tools, weapons, armor, and elaborate Viking-style structures like longhouses and outposts.

So far, there isn’t an exact release date yet, but with both the 1.0 launch and the PlayStation debut happening in the same year, we’ll probably see them released on the same day or week, as most developers follow this pattern to build hype for a new release.
