SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The fighting game will feature both cross-platform play and rollback netcode, though no specific release date has been shared yet.
The game first appeared on PC through Steam on January 28, and now console players will get their chance to experience this updated fighting classic.
During the recent Virtua Fighter Direct 2025 Spring event, legacy Virtua Fighter project producer Seiji Aoki shared the exciting news.
"I know we've kept you waiting, our Steam release Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is finally coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2!" Aoki said.
The decision to bring the game to multiple platforms came after hearing feedback from the gaming community. According to Aoki, the development team received numerous requests through the official Virtua Fighter Discord and other channels asking for broader platform support.
The producer emphasized that this console version will be "more than just a basic port." Beyond the cross-play support that will let gamers compete regardless of their platform choice, the team is implementing the same rollback netcode technology used in the Steam version. This technology helps create smoother online matches with less lag.
"We're going to include even more content to make this much more than a simple port, which we'll tell you about in future updates," Aoki promised.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. builds upon the foundation of Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, which was previously released for PlayStation 4. The updated version introduces several improvements, including stunning 4K graphics running at up to 60 frames per second, and various gameplay balance adjustments.
The game includes popular modes such as Rank Match, Arcade, Training, and Versus, and 19 different fighters, each with their own unique fighting styles.
