Digital Extremes has confirmed that a native version of Warframe is planned for the Nintendo Switch 2, but the port is currently delayed due to a shortage of developer kits.
The announcement came during TennoCon 2025, Warframe’s annual community event, where the developers unveiled a wide array of upcoming content. One of the biggest reveals was The Old Peace update, which brings new enemies, allies, remastered Operators, and a cinematic questline that sets the stage for 2026’s major Tau update. But it wasn’t just in-game content making headlines—fans also got clarity on the much-anticipated Switch 2 version.
Speaking to Eurogamer and other outlets, Digital Extremes CEO Steve Sinclair shared that their tech team is eager to get started on a Switch 2-native build of Warframe. However, the studio hasn’t received a development kit yet due to an ongoing backlog at Nintendo. “Our tech team is so excited to take advantage of the Switch 2’s high-speed cores and other cool features,” Sinclair said, “but there's just such a backlog for dev kits.”
Sinclair emphasized that plans for the port are very much alive, stating they’ll “absolutely” do a custom build for the new hardware once the dev kits arrive. The upgraded version is expected to offer faster load times and possibly take full advantage of the Switch 2’s enhanced hardware capabilities. “There’s a lot of stuff we can do with the extra cores,” he added, hinting at a significantly improved experience over the original Switch version.
Until then, Warframe players can still run the existing Switch version on Nintendo’s next-gen console, thanks to backward compatibility.
