Where Winds Meet, the upcoming Wuxia-inspired open-world action RPG from Chinese developer Everstone Studio, will launch as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive—at least for the first six months after release.

The news was confirmed through a new CGI trailer shared on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel, which ended with a small but significant detail: the game will be “not available on other consoles until at least six months after release date.”

While no exact release date has been revealed, Where Winds Meet is officially targeting a 2025 launch across PS5, PC, and mobile platforms. However, Xbox players will have to wait until that timed exclusivity period ends.

The newly released trailer further highlighted the game’s cinematic storytelling and its setting, steeped in classic Wuxia fantasy. It showcases a mix of martial arts swordplay, Chinese historical themes, and a touch of mysticism—something that's becoming more familiar to global audiences following the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong.

Set during China’s Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, Where Winds Meet places players in the role of a wandering swordsman caught in the chaos of a fractured empire. Choices made throughout the game will reportedly shape both the story and the world around the player, suggesting a narrative-driven approach layered with RPG mechanics.

Everstone Studio is aiming to bridge eastern storytelling with western gameplay expectations, drawing comparisons to titles like The Witcher and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The developers are focusing on fluid combat, rich lore, and an expansive open world—a combination that’s generating considerable anticipation.

final beta test for Where Winds Meet will kick off on July 25, 2025, available globally on both PS5 and PC via Steam. This playtest will feature previously explored zones as well as Kaifeng, a major new urban region. Registration for the beta is currently open for those eager to experience the game early.

Interestingly, Sony’s marketing push around Where Winds Meet has reminded many in the industry of the success of Black Myth: Wukong. That title is set to hit Xbox consoles this August, exactly one year after it debuted on PC and PS5. Although Wukong’s developers, Game Science, never formally disclosed an exclusivity deal with Sony, the timing and patterns suggest there may have been behind-the-scenes arrangements.

Moreover, Sony has been ramping up collaborations with Chinese developers through its China Hero Project, which also backs Lost Soul Aside and Phantom Blade Zero.
