Xbox Cloud Gaming Is Coming to Cars Thanks to LG Partnership

Xbox x LG Cars Partnership

Xbox is about to take “gaming on the go” to a whole new level — and this time, it’s not about handheld consoles or mobile devices.

Microsoft has announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) will soon be available in select internet-connected cars, thanks to a new partnership with LG Electronics. That means the next time you’re in the backseat of certain vehicles, you could be playing Gears of War: Reloaded, Forza Horizon 5, or even Hollow Knight: Silksong while on the move.

The feature will be powered by LG’s webOS Automotive Content Platform (ACP), which will integrate the Xbox app directly into a car’s infotainment system. Passengers will be able to stream games via Xbox Cloud Gaming, access their Game Pass Ultimate library, and even play "select" titles they already own.

Of course, you’ll need an automotive data plan to make it work, and Microsoft notes that all services will operate in compliance with driving safety regulations.

The announcement came with a trailer (shown above) titled “This is an Xbox that goes vroom”, showing the feature in action inside vehicles like the Kia EV3, which is already available. Support will also extend to the EV5, EV6, and the new Kia Sportage, with more compatible models expected to be added over time.

Christopher Lee, Vice President of Xbox Marketing, explained that this move is part of Xbox’s ongoing mission to meet players wherever they are. “Our work with LG is the latest example of Xbox expanding to new places, building on partnerships that already bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to mobile devices, PCs, and TVs. By adding vehicles to the mix, we’re giving players more choice than ever in how they enjoy their games,” he said.

The setup is straightforward: connect a compatible Bluetooth controller, launch the Xbox app from the car’s infotainment system, log into your Game Pass account, and start playing.

Microsoft also reaffirmed that these in-car builds are the same cloud-streamed versions available on other Microsoft devices, so you can pick up right where you left off at home.

This partnership also reinforces Xbox’s “play anywhere” vision, which has already brought Cloud Gaming to smartphones, tablets, PCs, and smart TVs. Now, with cars joining the lineup.

More compatible vehicles are to be announced soon.
