Key Highlights

Shift at Midnight is a co-op detective horror game developed solo by Bun Muen and published by Kwalee, launching on July 22 as a day-one Game Pass title. Up to three players manage a gas station during a series of randomly generated shifts, interrogating customers to identify doppelgangers, hitting sales quotas, and setting traps and barricades to survive monster attacks when things go wrong. It blends store simulation, deduction, and survival horror into a format that should feel immediately familiar to fans of Lethal Company-style co-op experiences.

Hell is Us is a third-person action-adventure from Rogue Factor, published by Nacon, originally released in September 2025. Set in a war-torn world overrun by supernatural threats, it strips away traditional navigation aids like maps and markers, instead asking players to rely on observation, environmental clues, and careful exploration to progress. Melee combat, investigation, puzzles, and atmospheric storytelling make up the core experience. It landed to a generally favorable reception with a Metacritic score around 77. Critics praised its atmosphere and bold design philosophy, while some pointed to repetitive combat and a deliberately cryptic approach that will not suit every player.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is Halo Studios' remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, arriving on July 28 as a day-one Game Pass release. Built on Unreal Engine 5, it brings Master Chief's iconic fight across the ring world into full modern fidelity, with refined gameplay, an expanded arsenal, cooperative play, and a brand new mission called Operation: Meteorite added alongside the classic story. It is also launching simultaneously on PlayStation 5, marking a continued broadening of the Halo brand beyond Xbox and PC.

Mistfall Hunter is a dark fantasy extraction action RPG arriving on July 30 as a day-one Game Pass title. You explore atmospheric, fog-filled environments, hunt creatures, and progress through a system of exploration and combat built around gathering and survival in a dark fantasy world.

Corsair Cove is a pirate-themed adventure game arriving on PC via Game Pass on July 31. It features naval combat, treasure hunting, ship customization, and light RPG elements set across a sea-faring world.

Heretic + Hexen is a collection bringing two classic fantasy first-person shooters to Game Pass on August 4, now also joining Game Pass Premium. Heretic set players loose in a dark fantasy world with magic-powered weapons in the tradition of Doom-era FPS design, while Hexen built on that foundation with hub-based exploration and a choice of three playable character classes. Both games have been remastered with modern quality-of-life improvements while preserving the fast-paced, atmospheric gameplay of the originals. A strong addition for retro FPS fans and players who grew up with the series.

Beast of Reincarnation is an action RPG developed by Game Freak, the studio best known for the Pokemon series, published by Fictions. It arrives on August 4 as a day-one Game Pass release and represents the studio's most ambitious non-Pokemon project to date. Set in a post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026, you play as Emma, a warrior with sword combat and plant-based blight abilities, alongside Koo, a dog companion with tactical support skills. The gameplay blends real-time melee combat, parrying, skill trees, and command-based companion direction in a world filled with blighted creatures and narrative depth. Pre-release previews have drawn comparisons to Sekiro and Nier, with the art direction frequently described as having a Studio Ghibli-like quality.

Games Leaving Xbox Game Pass on July 31

Eight titles are heading out at the end of the month, so prioritize them before they go:

  • Back to the Dawn (Cloud, Console, and PC)

  • Celeste (Cloud, Console, and PC)

  • Crusader Kings 3 (Cloud, Console, and PC)

  • Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord (Cloud, Console, and PC)

  • My Friendly Neighborhood (Cloud, Console, and PC)

  • Rain World (Cloud, Console, and PC)

  • Sniper Elite: Resistance (Cloud, Console, and PC)

  • Whiskerwood (PC)

The three biggest losses here are Celeste, Crusader Kings 3, and Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord. Celeste is a universally acclaimed precision platformer that holds a Metacritic score above 91 and is widely considered one of the finest indie games ever made, combining demanding gameplay with a genuinely moving story about self-doubt and perseverance. If you have never played it, the time you have left before July 31 is the reason to start.

Crusader Kings 3 is one of the deepest and most replayable grand strategy games available, praised as the best entry in Paradox's long-running dynasty simulation series. Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord is a medieval sandbox epic with massive real-time battles, kingdom management, and extensive mod support that has kept its player base engaged for years. Both are the kind of games that can consume hundreds of hours, so if either is sitting in your backlog, now is the time to make a dent.
