Xbox and Ubisoft have expanded their partnership to let players claim free PC versions of select Ubisoft console games they "already own."
The announcement landed through Xbox Wire, and it covers two separate updates. One adds premium editions and extra content for several big Ubisoft titles on the Xbox app for PC. The other is the bigger deal for most players: a free console to PC upgrade for a specific list of games, no extra payment required.
What exactly is this Xbox and Ubisoft offer?
If you already own a digital copy of an eligible game on Xbox, you can now grab the PC version through Ubisoft Connect at zero extra cost.
New purchases get both versions right away. So if you buy one of these games today on Xbox, the PC copy shows up automatically too. If you're an existing owner, the rollout is progressive and should be fully wrapped up by August 4.
Which Ubisoft games are included?
Here's the full list of titles covered under the console to PC offer:
Assassin's Creed Mirage
Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Far Cry 6
Immortals Fenyx Rising
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Riders Republic
Skull and Bones
The Crew 2
The Crew Motorfest
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
Watch Dogs Legion.
Does the offer work both ways?
Nope. This deal only flows one direction, from Xbox console to PC. If you already own the PC version of one of these games, you won't get a free Xbox copy in return. So players who started on PC don't benefit here, but anyone who's been Xbox first and is thinking about switching over gets a nice little bonus.
There's also the question of DLC and Season Passes. The good news is that most edition content and add-ons will carry over from your Xbox account to the PC version without extra charges. The catch is consumables and in-game currency. Those generally don't transfer.
How do you claim the free PC games?
The process is fairly straightforward. Here's what you need:
The digital Xbox console version of at least one eligible game (physical discs don't count)
A Ubisoft account
The Ubisoft Connect PC app, which is free to download
Once you've got those sorted:
Download/update Ubisoft Connect
Link your Xbox (Microsoft) account to your Ubisoft account (if not already linked)
Go to account.ubisoft.com and log in.
Go to Account Information → Linked accounts.
Find Xbox / Microsoft and select Link, then follow the prompts to sign in with your Xbox account. You can also link them by launching a Ubisoft game and signing in.
Sign in to Ubisoft Connect on PC with the same Ubisoft account that is linked to your Xbox account.
Check your library. The free PC versions should appear automatically in your Ubisoft Connect library.
Download and install the game(s) from your Ubisoft Connect library.
What about the premium editions on the Xbox PC app?
Alongside the free upgrade offer, Ubisoft is also bringing premium editions and additional content to the Xbox app on PC. This includes big names like Assassin's Creed Shadows, Star Wars Outlaws, Rainbow Six Siege, Skull and Bones, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, along with more content from the Far Cry and Watch Dogs franchises.
