11 Bit Studios has confirmed they are working on a new game in the Frostpunk universe, with plans to release it in 2027. This announcement came as part of the company's latest financial report released on Wednesday.

"As a developer and publisher, we intend to diversify both the scale of our projects and their development timelines. This also means capitalizing on near-term, financially attractive opportunities," said Przemysław Marszał, President of the Management Board. "This underlies our decision to initiate production on the next project set in the Frostpunk universe, which we plan to launch as early as 2027."

The Polish game developer isn't stopping with just one new title. According to their financial report, they have also begun development on a "larger-scale title" that won't be ready until 2029. These new projects show the company's commitment to building on their established franchises while also exploring new opportunities.

In a conversation with Eurogamer, Marszał expressed strong confidence in the Frostpunk franchise. "We totally believe in Frostpunk. We believe in that IP. We totally believe in that fantasy," he stated. This faith in the series comes despite mixed reactions to Frostpunk 2, which launched in September 2024.

Frostpunk 2 received positive reviews from critics but struggled to win over fans. "It is a mixed release for us," Marszał admitted. "We have a very good game, we have really awesome reviews from the press; then on the other hand, a lot of players aren't satisfied."

The company is actively working to improve Frostpunk 2 with upcoming patches and DLC content. They also plan to release a console version in the near future, with Marszał noting that "the console version is releasing very soon." While no specific date was given, he hinted it would arrive in "summer 2025."

Despite these challenges, 11 Bit Studios had a record-breaking year financially. In 2024, the company generated revenue of PLN 140.54 million (approximately $35 million USD), representing a 168.9% increase compared to the previous year. This marks the highest sales in the company's history.

Much of this success came from Frostpunk 2, which sold 592,000 copies by the end of December 2024, generating revenue of PLN 69.73 million (about $17.5 million USD). Older titles like the original Frostpunk and This War of Mine also continued to perform well, bringing in PLN 35.75 million (around $9 million USD), which was 13.7% higher than in 2023.

However, the company's record sales didn't translate into equally impressive profits. In 2024, 11 Bit Studios recorded an operating loss of approximately PLN 2.84 million (about $712,000 USD), though they still managed a net profit of PLN 6.90 million (approximately $1.7 million USD).

This lower-than-expected profit was largely due to the cancellation of "Project 8," a game that had been in development for several years. This decision resulted in a non-cash impairment loss of PLN 48.42 million (around $12.1 million USD). The company also took losses on two publishing titles, The Thaumaturge and Creatures of Ava, which "failed to resonate with gamers."

Looking ahead, 11 Bit Studios has several games in the pipeline. The Alters, which Marszał described as "strategically very important to us," is scheduled for release on June 13, 2025. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, as well as on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

The company's publishing division will release Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault in summer 2025, as well as a game called Death Howl later in the year.

"We can confidently outline our future plans," Marszał stated. "While our 2024 results – affected by non-cash charges – fell short of expectations, both our own and likely those of shareholders and investors, the company's financial condition remains strong."
