Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake seems increasingly likely, as voice actor Matt Ryan has now dropped a strong hint about its possible return.
During a recent fan convention, Matt Ryan—the actor behind the roguish pirate assassin Edward Kenway—was caught on camera making a sly comment while signing posters. After asking a fan whether they had finished Black Flag, he responded with a smirk, “Well, you might have to beat it again,” adding, “There’s a reason I say that, but I can’t say anything.” The brief exchange was shared online by Assassin’s Creed community figure Zephryss on X (formerly Twitter), and quickly caught fire among fans.
This isn’t the first time the remake has slipped through the cracks. Last month, a merchandise partner casually referenced a project involving Kenway, which further added to the ongoing speculation. Combine that with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s comments last year about the company working on multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes, and the puzzle pieces are beginning to fall into place.
The original Black Flag released back in 2013, meaning it’s now over a decade old. While still beloved for its open-world pirate fantasy and naval combat, it's safe to say the game’s visuals and mechanics could benefit from a modern touch—especially after seeing what AC Shadows is doing with next-gen tech.
As of now, there’s no official word on when the remake might be announced. It’s possible Ubisoft is saving the reveal for a big showcase, or perhaps they’re planning a surprise shadow drop—something we've often seen lately.
