Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Expands With Free Update and From the Ashes DLC in December

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft’s open-world adventure set in James Cameron’s sci-fi universe, is preparing for one of its biggest months yet. On December 5, 2025, the game will receive a major free update introducing a third-person mode and New Game+, followed two weeks later by a full expansion, From the Ashes, launching on December 19 alongside the new film Avatar: Fire and Ash.

What have Ubisoft added so far?

The game originally debuted in December 2023, developed by Massive Entertainment. Unlike the films, the story takes players to the Western Frontier of Pandora, an untouched region where you step into the role of a Na’vi child raised by the human-run Resource Development Administration (RDA). After awakening from cryosleep, you must reconnect with your people while fighting back against human exploitation.

Since its release, Ubisoft has steadily expanded the game.

  • April 2024 – Title Update 3.2: Introduced a 40 FPS mode for consoles and other optimizations.

  • July 9, 2024 – The Sky Breaker: First story pack, adding the Upper Plains region, a new campaign, and side quests.

  • November 28, 2024 – Secrets of the Spires: Second story pack, expanded into the Clouded Forest with new biomes and missions.

  • April 15, 2025 – Title Update 1.4: Added photo mode filters, ikran patterns, Hunter’s Guide improvements, and bug fixes.

What’s Coming in December’s Free Update?

One of the most requested features since day one has been a third-person camera, and Ubisoft is finally delivering.

Arriving on December 5, the free update also includes New Game+, giving players a fresh reason to replay the adventure with all their progress intact.

What Is From the Ashes About?

Just a couple of weeks later, Ubisoft will launch From the Ashes, a paid DLC priced at $20 for existing owners or bundled with the base game at $40 for new players. This expansion ties directly to Avatar: Fire and Ash, hitting theaters on the same day.

Players will take on the role of So’lek, a hardened Na’vi warrior from the Trr’ong clan. Left for dead after an ambush by the RDA and their new allies, the ruthless Ash Clan, So’lek awakens to a devastated world and sets out to protect his scattered family.

DLC takes place a few weeks after the events of the upcoming film Fire and Ash, and six months after the base game and its two story packs. The setting is a war-torn Kinglor Forest, including a new sub-region called The Ravines, and mirrors the themes of the upcoming film.

Ubisoft worked closely with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment to ensure the story expansion and the movie complement each other.
