Uncapped Games has officially canceled Battle Aces, their fast-paced real-time strategy (RTS) title.
The announcement was made on May 23 via the game’s Steam page and official social media. “Today, with deep regret, we are announcing that development on Battle Aces has come to an end,” the statement read.
Originally revealed in 2024, Battle Aces set out to solve one of the genre's long-standing problems: accessibility. Traditional RTS games often intimidate newcomers with steep learning curves and long match durations. Uncapped Games' approach was different.
Battle Aces introduced:
10-minute matches for fast, high-intensity gameplay
Customizable unit decks, allowing players to pre-select 8 units per battle
1v1 and 2v2 gameplay, focusing on quick reaction and positioning over traditional RTS base-building
A free-to-play model with purchasable units and cosmetics
The goal? Make RTS games approachable without sacrificing competitive integrity.
Players responded positively during closed beta phases. The second beta, launched on April 16, 2025, introduced new units and quality-of-life improvements based on community feedback. The reception was warm, with many praising the game’s pacing and innovative mechanics.
Cancellation Despite Positive Player Feedback
Despite that enthusiasm, the project has been shut down. According to Uncapped’s official statement, internal testing told a different story:
“The returns from early testing were not strong enough to support continued development.”
The game struggled with long-term engagement and failed to stand out in the increasingly crowded live-service and RTS market.
Uncapped Games — a Tencent-affiliated studio made up of former Blizzard devs, including StarCraft II’s former lead multiplayer designer David Kim — had big ambitions. Battle Aces was supposed to be a modern RTS built for today’s generation of gamers. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite make it to the finish line.
