Battlefield 6 Overtakes NBA 2K26 as U.S. Best‑Selling Game of 2025

The US game sales data for October is in, and as many expected, Battlefield 6 from EA/DICE claimed the top spot.

But that’s not all; it also became the top-selling game of the year, dethroning NBA 2K26, which had just taken the crown in September from the long-reigning Monster Hunter Wilds.

The report comes from market research firm Circana and its analyst Mat Piscatella, who shared the data on Bluesky. According to him, Battlefield 6 debuted as the best-selling game of 2025 year-to-date. It’s currently the top seller of 2025 on both Xbox and PC aggregated storefront charts, while ranking second on PlayStation, behind only NBA 2K26.

Official data shows EA’s hit has sold 7 million copies globally, and yesterday EA even dubbed Battlefield 6 the "best-selling shooter of 2025" on its website, taking a jab at other heavyweights like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and ARC Raiders.

According to Matt, Battlefield 6 generated the highest single-month US physical and digital full-game dollar sales total in three years. The last title to top that figure was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II in October 2022. Battlefield 6 also launched as the best-selling game in franchise history, with its October 2025 sales surpassing the lifetime total of the previous record holder, Battlefield 1.

Competition in October

While Battlefield 6 led the way, other titles also posted strong numbers. Pokémon Legends: Z‑A ranked second overall and became the best‑selling physical game of 2025 year‑to‑date.

Meanwhile, Ghost of Yōtei secured third place for October and currently sits tenth in the year‑to‑date rankings, despite being PlayStation 5 exclusive. NBA 2K26, which briefly held the top spot in September, now trails Battlefield 6 in the overall 2025 chart.

Market Context

Circana’s October 2025 report highlighted broader industry growth. Total U.S. video game spending reached $4.885 billion, up 3% compared to October 2024. Hardware sales were particularly strong, rising 36% year‑over‑year to $351 million, driven largely by the Nintendo Switch 2’s momentum. Content spending also grew modestly, with mobile and subscription services offsetting declines in other segments.
