EA and DICE are officially lifting the curtain on Battlefield 6 this week, with the game’s long-awaited reveal trailer scheduled to premiere on Thursday, July 24 at 8AM PT via the official Battlefield YouTube channel. A 48-hour countdown is already live, teasing fans with the promise of “the ultimate all-out warfare experience.”

Hours before this reveal, the official Battlefield Twitter account also confirmed that an open beta is on the way. While an exact date hasn’t been confirmed by EA, rumors swirling online — including from Reddit API leaks — suggest the beta might kick off on August 4.

This follows months of closed beta testing through Battlefield Labs, where select players worldwide had early hands-on experience with the upcoming shooter. Now, the wider audience is finally getting their turn, and it seems EA is using the beta not just as a showcase, but also as a chance to gather community feedback on one major point of contention: weapon systems.

According to the post on X (formerly Twitter), Battlefield 6 will feature two distinct weapon playlist modes in its open beta: one with signature weapons locked to specific classes (closed weapons) and another with free-for-all weapon access across all classes (open weapons). This approach comes after months of heated discussion, particularly from long-time fans who preferred the traditional class-locked system found in earlier Battlefield entries.

Back in March, DICE first announced the shift toward open weapons — a change that wasn’t well received. Despite doubling down in early July, the developers are now seemingly softening their stance. “Why not both?” they posted, adding that players will be able to choose between the two systems during the beta phase.

The dual playlist system is being praised by fans, many calling it the right move. “Great idea, after all, it’s a BETA. The best place to do a test like this on a large scale,” one user posted in response.

Still, while the open beta will let fans try out both weapon systems, it doesn’t confirm which system will carry over into the full release. The general hope is that EA will treat the beta as a genuine testbed and let player feedback influence final decisions.

For now, fans should keep an eye on the official reveal trailer dropping July 24 at 8AM PT, and be ready to register for the open beta shortly after.
