BGMI Lite Is Officially Coming: Timeline and What to Expect

Krafton India has confirmed that Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite, better known as BGMI Lite, is finally in development.
On August 16, 2026, the official BGMI YouTube channel dropped a short video titled "You Asked. We Listened. BGMI LITE Coming Soon," alongside a dedicated Instagram handle, @bgmi_lite.official.
The groundwork for BGMI Lite was laid back in January 2026, when Krafton ran an in-game "KRAFTON Listens" survey. The survey directly asked players whether they wanted a Lite version, and it dug into several key areas:
Performance issues on budget phones, including lag, overheating, ping problems, and server issues
Preferred ad placements, such as post-match screens, matchmaking or spawn island windows, or reward-linked crates
Whether players would be willing to watch ads or pay a small monthly fee to remove them
Desired Lite features like 20-player matches on smaller maps, auto-aim or auto-fire options, faster reloads without attachments, temporary protective walls, and special powers
This was the first time Krafton officially used the term "BGMI Lite" in any communication, marking a shift after the long absence following PUBG Mobile Lite's discontinuation. Community flagged the survey at the time as a strong hint that a lighter, ad-supported version was being seriously considered.
When Will BGMI Lite Launch?
Aside from the Avengers-style video, nothing else has been revealed. We expected a late 2026 release, but since development is complicated, that timeline might shift. Building a full lightweight client is not a quick job. It usually demands heavy optimization work, separate testing cycles, and regulatory clearance in India.
Beta / Pre-registration details are expected to emerge in the coming months, likely giving us a better idea of the release date.
What Can Players Expect From BGMI Lite?
Krafton has not revealed exact system requirements, maps, or mechanics yet, but based on the survey questions and similar Lite titles, players can reasonably expect the following:
A much smaller download size, likely in the 300MB to 500MB range on Android
Better optimization for low RAM devices, potentially supporting phones with 2 GB or even less, along with reduced heating, improved battery life, and smoother frame rates
Simplified gameplay, including smaller lobbies, faster-paced matches, possible accessibility features like auto-aim, and maps built to run more efficiently
New monetization paths, including ads shown post-match or during matchmaking, with the option to pay to remove them, alongside the existing UC purchase system
Possible account progress sharing with the main BGMI client
BGMI already commands a massive player base, frequently cited at over 10 million daily active users. But a huge chunk of India's mobile gaming audience is still running mid-range or budget phones, where the full game often struggles with storage demands, along with lag and overheating issues.
History has shown that Lite versions tend to bring back players who drifted away to lighter alternatives like Free Fire, and they often pull in fresh players who could never run the full game smoothly in the first place.
