Hero's Crown: The Greek Mythology Mode
The centerpiece of this update is the new Hero's Crown themed mode. This mode redesigns parts of Erangel with ancient Greek architecture, giant marble-style statues, and themed battle zones. Familiar locations like Ruins and Ferry Pier will look completely different after the patch drops.
A brand-new floating island called Crown's Abode is also being introduced as a high-risk landing zone. Landing there comes with a reward: players earn an additional recall chance, giving squads another shot at surviving deeper into matches.
Sun Chariots are also part of the update, and players can ride them while taking on bosses for rare loot.
New Combat Trials and Special Abilities
The 4.4 update adds three challenge-based combat trials that can activate during matches. Each trial is tied to a legendary Greek character and unlocks a unique power upon completion.
Spartan's Trial: Players defend a battle flag against waves of enemies. Completing it unlocks the Unyielding State buff, which delays knockdowns during combat.
Icarus' Trial: Focused on movement and climbing, players must scale high areas within a time limit to unlock temporary flying abilities.
Achilles' Trial: A speed-based combat challenge involving phantom hunts. Completing it grants powerful ancient assault abilities.
The update also introduces three standalone special abilities that can shift the momentum of a fight:
Double Dash: A quick dash skill for rushing enemies or escaping tight spots.
Spartan Flag: Deploys a protective shield around the player.
Wax Wings: Allows players to glide and fly across certain areas of the map.
New Weapons and Gear
The JS9 submachine gun is being added to the Erangel map. Players on the Rondo map are already familiar with it, as it is considered one of the stronger weapons there.
A new Ghillie Suit has also been added, specifically effective for camouflage within certain brown bushes on Erangel.
Alongside it, a jetpack item is being introduced, adding a vertical movement option to the game.
The update also brings the Werewolf ability, a new melee weapon called the Krambit, and a Flame Ability that deals fire-based damage with an additional fireball.
Map and Gameplay Updates
Beyond the new mode, several quality-of-life and map changes are coming with version 4.4:
Erangel gets Greek-style villages, statues, and themed structures, plus a new themed Pochinki with a Spartan Helmet item.
Livik gets a proper spawn island or waiting lobby, replacing the current random waiting experience before matches start.
A new Location Highlight feature changes how map location names are displayed. When a location name appears, that area will be visually highlighted on the map, making it easier to identify theme zones and new areas.
An auto-drive feature has been added for horses, working similarly to the car auto-drive mechanic.
Teammate management gets a small but useful improvement: players can now use an Unfollow button to stop a teammate from following them during the landing phase.
The Dino Ground theme mode is also making a return, bringing back encounters with Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, and Pteranodon for players who enjoyed it the first time around.
