Black Myth: Wukong will be featured during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. CEST.
The announcement came straight from its developer, Game Science, which shared a stunning artwork on X, featuring monsters, calligraphy, and landscapes.
The post read:
"Destined Ones, GameScience will be joining this year's Gamescom Opening Night Live. The show kicks off at 8:00 p.m. (CEST) on August 19, and we look forward to seeing you there."
This quickly fueled speculation about the highly anticipated DLC expansion. With the Xbox Series X|S launch set for just one day later on August 20, the timing seems intentional. Adding fuel to the fire, the image also included a date: August 20, 2025, in the bottom right corner.
According to translations shared in the post’s comments, the calligraphy read, “The extraordinary is ordinary in this world; ‘gods and devils’ often wear respectable attire.” This cryptic phrasing, combined with the date placement, has fans theorizing about a “shadow drop” DLC release right after the showcase.

DLC rumors for Black Myth: Wukong are nothing new. As per a Bloomberg interview shortly after the game’s launch — when sales had already reached 20 million copies — Daniel Wu, head of Game Science investor Hero Games, revealed that the team’s next major project would indeed be a DLC expansion, drawing comparisons to Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. He emphasized that it would not take years to arrive and that it was planned as part of a broader series based on Journey to the West, though it wouldn’t be a direct sequel.
After that interview, the developers remained silent on the topic — until now. With both the Xbox release and Gamescom appearance lined up back-to-back, the stars seem to be aligning for a major content drop. Whether it’s an expansive new chapter or something more experimental, fans will find out soon enough when Gamescom kicks off.
