Gamescom 2025 is officially set to take place from August 20 to 24 in Cologne, Germany, and the event organizers have announced the first wave of confirmed partners. Several well-known publishers and developers are scheduled to appear, offering fans a closer look at some of the most anticipated upcoming games.

One of the biggest highlights is the return of Nintendo, which skipped Gamescom in 2024. This year, the company is expected to focus on Nintendo Switch 2, possibly showcasing titles like Metroid Prime 4. While fans are excited about potential announcements, major reveals will likely be reserved for Nintendo’s own Direct presentations closer to the time.

Capcom is another major name confirmed for Gamescom 2025. The publisher is likely to bring updates on anticipated titles, including Resident Evil Requiem. Given Capcom’s history of timed reveals, fans are hoping for gameplay footage or new details during the event.

Ubisoft will also be present and could use the event to share news about ongoing and upcoming projects. Since Ubisoft has decided not to host its usual Ubisoft Forward showcase this year, it's expected they’ll use Gamescom and other events like the PC Gaming Show—where they recently appeared—to share more updates on franchises such as Assassin’s Creed.

Mobile and AR-focused developer Niantic will also be attending, and they are expected to highlight projects like Pokémon GO and possibly unveil new augmented reality titles in development.

Wargaming, the studio behind World of Tanks, may use the event to reveal new content for its ongoing games or introduce new titles.

UK-based Team17, known for publishing popular indie hits like Worms, Overcooked, and The Escapists, is expected to showcase both existing titles and fresh projects.

Meanwhile, Astragon, a German publisher best known for simulation games like Construction Simulator, Bus Simulator, and Police Simulator, is set to return with more hands-on demo content aimed at sim fans.

Gamescom 2025 Schedule and Extra Activities

The event will be hosted at Koelnmesse, one of Europe’s largest convention centers, and will begin with Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025, hosted by Geoff Keighley. This show traditionally includes new game trailers, world premieres, and surprise announcements.

As per previous announcements, the city of Cologne has renewed its long-term partnership with Gamescom organizers, turning the entire city into a gaming hotspot during the event week.

Although no specific game titles have been confirmed for debut as of June 12, 2025, fans can expect a combination of AAA and indie game announcements, release date reveals, and gameplay trailers, similar to past years. The event will also feature partner showcases like the Future Games Show, known for spotlighting emerging studios.

Looking Back at Gamescom 2024 for Clues

While the 2025 lineup is still under wraps, Gamescom 2024 gives a good idea of what to expect. Last year’s edition brought major reveals such as Borderlands 4, Civilization VII, Mafia: The Old Country, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Many of those titles had their release windows announced during Opening Night Live, setting a high standard for this year.

As per the reports by Gamescom organizers, the 2024 event saw 1,400 exhibitors, marking a 15% increase from 2023. With E3 now officially discontinued, Gamescom is widely considered the premier global gaming convention.

Expanded Entertainment and Global Reach

In addition to game demos and trailers, Gamescom 2025 will feature a growing live entertainment segment. Highlights include The Witcher: Live in Concert, offering fans a full symphonic experience based on CD Projekt Red’s fantasy series, and a performance by metal band Sabaton during the event week. The Prime League Offline Final, part of the League of Legends esports circuit, will also take place at the venue.

Gamescom’s global presence continues to grow. Later in 2025, Gamescom Asia will collaborate with the Thailand Game Show in Bangkok, and Gamescom Latam—held last month in Brazil—has been expanding its reach as the biggest gaming event in the Americas.
