Fortnite’s fast-paced Blitz Royale mode isn’t going anywhere. In a subtle but clear confirmation, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has now indicated that the fan-favorite mode will be added permanently to Fortnite’s game rotation.

The confirmation came on July 17, two days after the mode’s original end date of July 15. Sweeney reposted a message on X/Twitter from known Fortnite leaker BackersGamesF, who referenced reports by other reputable leakers, itsmeleaky and Loolo_WRLD, that "BLITZ ROYALE WILL BE A PERMANENT MODE". While not an official press release, Sweeney’s repost essentially served as a green light — validating what fans had hoped: Blitz Royale is here to stay.

A Sudden Star Among Fortnite Modes

Blitz Royale launched on June 18, 2025, originally as a limited-time mode (LTM). Designed as a snappier alternative to traditional Battle Royale, it drops 32 players into fast five-minute matches on a smaller map with no building allowed. It didn't take long for the mode to explode in popularity.

Initially scheduled to end on July 15, Epic extended Blitz Royale until August 12 following strong player engagement.

The numbers speak volumes. Blitz Royale consistently ranks in the top four most-played Fortnite game modes. It trails only Reload, Reload Ranked, and the original Battle Royale — and even surpasses Fortnite's popular Zero Build and Fortnite OG experiences in player count.

That’s a significant achievement, especially considering the legacy and hype behind OG Fortnite. While Epic had high hopes for Fortnite OG as a nostalgic draw for players, Blitz Royale’s fresh approach seems to have resonated more consistently with the community.

What makes Blitz Royale so engaging is its streamlined design. Players jump into intense, quick matches with fewer opponents and faster gameplay — perfect for those who want excitement without the commitment of longer sessions. Combined with a solid progression system, rotating mythic items, and high-energy crossovers (like Dragon Ball and Mortal Kombat), the mode has become the go-to for players seeking fast-paced action.

What’s Next for Blitz?

With the mode now officially part of Fortnite’s future, it’s likely we’ll see Epic Games continue to invest in new content, features, and collaborations tailored to Blitz Royale’s format. In fact, Epic recently ran a poll asking players what kind of updates they'd like to see in the mode — including new powers, POIs, and enemies like Chapter 5’s Megalo Don.

Making Blitz permanent does raise the challenge of keeping the experience fresh over time, but if its first month is any indication, Epic appears more than ready to meet that demand.

For now, Fortnite fans can celebrate knowing their favorite quickfire mode isn’t going anywhere. And with CEO Tim Sweeney giving the nod, Blitz Royale’s future looks just as fast and furious as its gameplay.
