Capcom has hinted at a possible sequel to Pragmata, its newly released original IP that has already crossed one million copies sold within two days of launch.
Rob Dyer, Chief Operating Officer of Capcom USA, made the comments during a panel at the Iicon event this week. According to a transcript by Game File, Dyer was speaking about Capcom's global development philosophy and used Pragmata as a prime example of how listening to Western audiences can translate into real success.
Dyer explained that Pragmata's Japanese development team actively collaborated with Capcom's American division throughout the game's six-year development cycle. The team ran focus tests, offered demos, and gathered survey data from Western players. "They took feedback," Dyer said, and ultimately, "it was worth the effort."
He then pointed toward the future of the franchise with some encouraging words. "We're at a point now where we've got another IP that Capcom, and god bless them, has an arsenal, that we can continue to go down." That is a pretty clear signal that a sequel could very well be in the pipeline.
Pragmata is a notable achievement for Capcom, being a fresh original IP from the studio better known for long-running franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. The game follows astronaut Hugh and his android companion Diana as they fight to survive a Moon base overrun by dangerous robots. Fans have particularly responded well to the father-daughter dynamic between the two protagonists.
As per Capcom's own statements, the company's decision to release an early demo and launch a Nintendo Switch 2 version on day one played a significant role in building momentum. "These initiatives generated significant momentum, enabling Pragmata to achieve worldwide sales of over one million units in just two days despite being a completely new IP, marking a strong start for the title," the company noted.
The critical reception has matched the commercial performance. Pragmata currently holds a Metacritic score of 85 and sits at "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam, with 97% of user reviews in its favor.
