Chris Hansen, best known for NBC’s To Catch a Predator, is setting his sights on Roblox as the platform faces mounting criticism over child safety.
According to a post on X by Roblox community news outlet RTC, Hansen has reached out to Schlep — a well-known “predator hunter” recently banned from Roblox — to discuss plans for a potential documentary investigating the company’s safety practices.
Update: Chris Hansen confirmed his involvement via video message on X. He Said:
"You may have heard that my streaming crime network, True Blue, and I are investigating the exploitation of children on the popular gaming platform Roblox. Well, it's absolutely true, and we're deep into it. I've already interviewed law enforcement investigators and victims of this horrible activity, and we have some collaborators—some people who've been working in this space, including Schlep, who committed to help us in his endeavor. Will Roblox actually say anything about it? Will it make any changes? We're going to do our best to hold them accountable. Stay tuned—we are working hard on this project."
Schlep became widely known for his online sting operations, which allegedly led to the arrest of six predators targeting Roblox players. However, his account was permanently banned, with Roblox stating that his actions, while perhaps well-intentioned, “created an unsafe environment” and violated its Terms of Use. That decision ignited backlash, with supporters claiming the platform is silencing those trying to protect its younger audience.
The controversy has escalated beyond the community. The state of Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing it of prioritizing “user growth and profits over child safety.” Congressman Ro Khanna of California has also weighed in, starting a petition for stronger safeguards, more parental tools, and better cooperation with law enforcement.
When Hansen’s documentary will be released is still uncertain, but its potential has already intensified public discussion. Known for confronting predators on national television, Hansen’s involvement would bring a high-profile spotlight to Roblox’s policies and moderation efforts.
