The controversy surrounding Roblox’s handling of child safety has now reached the halls of Congress. U.S. Congressman Ro Khanna is working with YouTubers Schlep and KreekCraft to push for stronger moderation, transparency, and accountability on the popular gaming platform.
Earlier this week, Roblox banned Schlep — a creator known for exposing alleged predators in the Roblox community — and sent him a cease-and-desist letter accusing him of violating the platform’s Terms of Use. Roblox claimed his "vigilante-style sting operations," which have led to at least six arrests, bypassed its safety systems and create "an unsafe environment for users."
The move sparked a wave of backlash online, with many accusing "Roblox of silencing a whistleblower" instead of addressing deeper safety concerns. Advocacy groups, including the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, have previously flagged Roblox for hosting dozens of groups trading explicit material involving minors. The platform is also facing multiple lawsuits over alleged failures to prevent grooming and abuse.
On August 13, KreekCraft — a Roblox-focused streamer with over 13 million subscribers on YouTube — revealed that Khanna’s office had contacted both him and Schlep. “Yesterday the office of Congressman Ro Khanna reached out to Schlep and I concerning Roblox's child safety issues and moderation concerns,” he posted on X. “We shared the information we have along with instances of failed policy on Roblox's end. (E.g. Bathroom Simulator).”
Khanna, a Democrat representing California’s 17th congressional district — home to parts of Silicon Valley — has long advocated for tech accountability and child protection online. He previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the U.S. Department of Commerce under President Obama, focusing on technology and trade issues.
Following his discussions with the YouTubers, Khanna announced a public petition titled “Stand with Us to Protect Kids and Save Roblox.” The petition aims to collect one million signatures by August 15, 2025, and calls for Roblox to:
Improve safety measures for children
Increase transparency for parents
Actively investigate and prosecute predators
In a statement posted on TikTok and shared on X, Khanna criticized Roblox for failing to act decisively on dangerous content and predatory behavior. "Roblox is simply not doing enough to protect our kids, inform parents, and go after child predators," Khanna said.
He connected the issue to his broader transparency campaigns, such as efforts to unseal the Epstein files, arguing that parents deserve to know how platforms operate behind the scenes.
The collaboration between Khanna, Schlep, and KreekCraft is informal but strategic — combining the political weight of a sitting Congressman with the influence of two high-profile figures in the Roblox community. Observers note that this could lead to congressional hearings or policy proposals aimed at holding gaming platforms more accountable for child safety.
