Techland has officially delayed the release of Dying Light: The Beast, pushing the game’s launch by four weeks to September 19, 2025.

The highly anticipated standalone zombie adventure was originally slated for an August 22 release, but the developers say the additional time will help fine-tune several key elements and deliver a more polished experience. In the post, Techland stated:

“It has always been our goal to make Dying Light: The Beast the best Dying Light game we've ever released. To honor this promise, we’ve made the decision to move the release date… to allow for extra polishing work.”

Why the Delay?

According to Techland, the decision was made based on valuable feedback gathered through playtests, preview coverage, and community input. Over the next four weeks, the team will focus on improving:

  • Cutscene and player animations

  • Gameplay balance

  • User interface clarity

  • Physics and interaction quality

These are small but meaningful refinements, the studio says, that will help elevate the experience from “good to great.”

“We know this might be disappointing to some fans, and we understand,” Techland added. “Dying Light: The Beast is the culmination of everything we've learned in more than a decade of the series, and this experience has shown us how important the first impression is.”

A Quick Recap of What’s Coming

For those catching up, Dying Light: The Beast is a standalone survival horror game set in a zombie-infested valley called Castor Woods. The game stars Kyle Crane, the returning hero from the original Dying Light, who escapes after 13 years of captivity and experimentation at the hands of a mysterious antagonist known as the Baron.

Although originally developed as DLC for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, the scope of the project grew significantly. In fact, Techland officially confirmed during Gamescom 2024 that it had evolved into a fully self-contained game, warranting a standalone release.

To recognize the community that supported the franchise through the years, Techland is also offering the game free to anyone who purchased the Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition before it was delisted in September 2024.

Dying Light: The Beast will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).

As of now, last-gen versions for PS4 and Xbox One are still in development and are expected to launch by the end of 2025. There’s still no word on a Nintendo Switch release, or if the game will come to Game Pass or PlayStation Plus at launch.
