The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered Reaches 4 Million Players in Just 5 Days

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered

Bethesda Game Studios announced that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has already reached 4 million players since its surprise release on April 22.

"We are so grateful to the over 4 million of you that have already ventured into Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered. Thank you!" Bethesda shared on Friday via Bluesky.

The remastered version of the beloved 2006 role-playing game was officially revealed on Tuesday following almost two years of rumors and leaks.

The remaster was developed primarily by Virtuos with support from Bethesda Game Studios. The updated version features significant visual improvements using Unreal Engine 5 while maintaining the core gameplay experience. Some new voice recordings have been added, but the underlying Gamebryo engine has been mostly preserved with only necessary adjustments.

It's worth noting that the 4 million player count doesn't necessarily equal 4 million copies sold. Since Bethesda is owned by Microsoft, all their first-party games launch on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscription services. This means many players can access the game without making an additional purchase beyond their subscription.

Despite this distinction, reaching 4 million players so quickly represents an impressive achievement for the remastered title. For comparison, Bethesda's recent title, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, took two months to reach 4 million players after its Xbox and PC release in December 2024.

Currently, the game is enjoying very positive reviews on Metacritic (88 for PC, 79 for Xbox), OpenCritic (84/100), as well as Steam (82%).

Even though Bethesda stated they won't provide official mod support, enthusiastic fans have already created over 100 mods for the remastered version.
