Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that their upcoming co-op shooter FBC: Firebreak will not include live service elements like daily missions or battle passes.
Despite being an online multiplayer game, Remedy is taking a different approach from many modern titles. During the latest press event (noted by MP1st), Game Director Mike Kayatta made it clear that the team wants players to enjoy the game on their own terms.
"We wanted to make something that players could enjoy on their terms. Not ours," Kayatta explained. "That means ditching all of the engagement stress that you often see with live service titles. In other words, we don't want to do daily check-ins and monthly grinds and these kind of, like, FOMO."
He added simply, "Basically, we're not here to give you a second job."
This player-friendly stance comes as many game developers increasingly push toward live service models that encourage daily logins and continuous spending.
What Is FBC: Firebreak?
FBC: Firebreak expands on the universe of Control, Remedy's acclaimed supernatural action game. It represents two firsts for the studio – their first self-published title and their first cooperative game.
The game is described as a session-based multiplayer experience with replayable missions called "Jobs." In one revealed job titled "Paper Chase," players face an outbreak of rogue sticky notes that develops into a full-blown paranormal crisis.
Before starting a mission, players select a "Crisis Kit" that determines their role:
Jump Kit: Focuses on electricity-based abilities for field control and mobility
Fix Kit: Features heavy-hitting, impact-based attacks including a massive wrench
Splash Kit: Uses water-based powers to manipulate battlefield conditions and support teammates

Player-Friendly Approach
According to Remedy, all future content updates for FBC: Firebreak, including new Jobs, will be free for all players. The company will offer cosmetic items for purchase but promises no limited-time rotations or daily Check-Ins requirements.
This approach aligns with Remedy's reputation for creating high-quality single-player experiences. The studio is known for critically acclaimed titles like Control and Alan Wake 2, both of which received perfect scores from some reviewers.
Key Features
FBC: Firebreak emphasizes these core elements:
Cooperative Chaos: Three-player cooperative gameplay requiring teamwork to handle paranormal threats across various locations
Beyond Bullets: Customizable loadouts with specialized tools, grenades, support items, and paranormal upgrades
The Federal Bureau of Control: A return to the strange world of Control, featuring the iconic Oldest House headquarters from a new perspective
Release
FBC: Firebreak is scheduled for release in Summer 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The game will also be available on day one for PC Game Pass, Game Pass Ultimate, and PlayStation Plus Game Catalog (Extra and Premium) subscribers.
For fans of Remedy's unique storytelling and supernatural worlds, FBC: Firebreak offers a chance to experience that universe with friends, without the commitment demanded by traditional live service games.
