Remedy Entertainment’s free-to-play co-op shooter FBC: Firebreak has officially surpassed one million players.
The milestone comes just weeks after its release on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), Console (PS5, Xbox Series), as well as PlayStation Plus (Extra and Premium) and Xbox Game Pass (Ultimate), making it a promising start for the Control universe spin-off.
In a message posted on social media, Remedy thanked players for the support, calling it a “significant milestone.” However, the team was also upfront about the road ahead. “We know there is still a lot of work ahead of us,” the studio admitted, adding that they are “super-motivated” and have “a lot of exciting things cooking” for the player base.
That excitement might be necessary to maintain momentum. Just last week, Remedy acknowledged feedback around Firebreak’s rocky opening. The developers pointed out several issues with the game’s first hour, including confusing onboarding, weak starting weapons, and systems that lacked clarity. They described the early experience as “not great” and admitted that unlocking higher-tier weapons felt too grindy.
Despite these growing pains, FBC: Firebreak has received some praise for its unique setting and chaotic cooperative gameplay. GameSpot rated it 8/10, while Metacritic and Opencritic shows mixed reviews, with an average around 65.
Looking forward, Remedy has outlined a roadmap that suggests they’re in it for the long haul. Two new Jobs (or missions) are planned for release in 2025, with additional updates extending into 2026. Importantly, all post-launch playable content will be free. Cosmetic items are available for purchase, but the studio has made it clear that there are no gameplay advantages, no limited-time offers, and no pressure to log in daily.
It’s a busy time at Remedy, and Firebreak is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. Alongside this project, the studio is also juggling Control 2, as well as a full remake of Max Payne and Max Payne 2.
