Square Enix has officially revealed the schedule for the next series of Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest events, confirming they will take place across North America, Europe, and Japan in 2026.
The first stop will be Anaheim, California, at the Anaheim Convention Center on April 24–25, 2026. The celebration will then move to Berlin, Germany, at Messe Berlin hub27 on July 25–26, 2026, before concluding in Tokyo at the Makuhari Messe on October 31–November 1, 2026.
The announcement came as part of a special video marking the MMORPG’s 12th anniversary, which also gave fans a reminder of how far the game has come since its relaunch in 2013.
These Fan Fest events traditionally serve as the stage for major expansion reveals. However, the newly announced timeline suggests players may be waiting longer than usual for the next chapter. Typically, new expansions arrive a few months after the Tokyo Fan Fest. Following that trend, the expansion after Dawntrail could launch in early or mid-2027. If so, it would mark the longest gap yet between expansions — nearly three years since Dawntrail’s release.
Several factors may explain this extended cycle. Dawntrail introduced a major graphical overhaul, making future updates more resource-intensive. Square Enix is also managing the game across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, PC, and now Xbox. According to VGC, director Naoki Yoshida even hinted at the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 version, which would add further development challenges. On top of that, the PS4 edition is reportedly nearing its technical limits, and Square Enix may eventually phase it out, similar to other long-running online games.
Adding to the complexity, Yoshida himself has been involved in multiple projects outside of FF14, such as Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.
For now, players can expect Patches, which will continue to advance the story without introducing a new major character just yet. Fans can also anticipate collaborations like a Monster Hunter Wilds crossover to keep things exciting.
Despite concerns about a possible dip in player numbers, Final Fantasy 14 still boasts over 30 million registered accounts. With the Fan Fest events now scheduled, the community at least has a clear roadmap leading up to the next era of the game.
