It’s a big win for Xbox players and Final Fantasy fans alike. At the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Square Enix officially confirmed that Final Fantasy XVI is now available digitally for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC—and yes, it comes with Xbox Play Anywhere support, meaning you can play it seamlessly across console, PC, or even via the cloud.

But that’s not all. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the expanded version of the beloved 2020 remake, is also set to arrive on Xbox later this winter, marking the first time the modern FFVII saga appears on Microsoft platforms.

Final Fantasy XVI is available as a Complete Edition, which includes the base game and both DLC chapters — Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide — at a discounted bundle price. Players can also opt to buy the base game and expansions separately.

And yes, Xbox Play Anywhere ensures cross-save and cross-ownership between Xbox console and PC. So whether you're jumping in on your Series X, Series S, or Xbox PC, Clive’s brutal quest for revenge and larger-than-life Eikon battles are ready when you are.

To sweeten the deal, early adopters of Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox will receive bonus in-game items, including:

  • Blood Sword

  • Braveheart Sword

  • Brave Blade

  • Cait Sith’s Charm

  • Sixteen Bells Orchestrion

Also, if you’re still on the fence, a free demo of Final Fantasy XVI is live now for Xbox Series X|S, with progress carrying over into the full game.

FFVII Remake Intergrade Finally Headed to Xbox

For those waiting (impatiently) for FFVII Remake Intergrade, the wait is almost over. The expanded edition includes a new story arc with Yuffie, enhanced visuals, and improved performance over the 2020 release. You’ll once again step into the shoes of Cloud Strife and relive the beginning of one of gaming’s most iconic adventures — now on Xbox for the first time.

This release adds even more fuel to Square Enix’s commitment to its multi-platform strategy, ensuring Xbox players no longer feel left out of the Final Fantasy party.

Oh, and One More Thing… Final Fantasy VII Just Hit 15.1 Million Units Sold

While the Xbox reveal stole the spotlight, Square Enix quietly dropped a major sales update for the original Final Fantasy VII (1997): it has now sold over 15.1 million copies globally. That’s up from 14.4 million in November 2023 — meaning over 700,000 more copies have been sold in less than two years.

The 1997 classic helped define a generation of RPGs and catapulted Final Fantasy into mainstream gaming consciousness, particularly in Western markets. And now, between its original release and the ongoing remake trilogy, FFVII continues to build its legacy across nearly every platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and even mobile.

Xbox Players Finally Catch Up

With FFXVI live now and FFVII Remake Intergrade arriving this winter, every single-player mainline Final Fantasy game is now officially available on Xbox. Add in Final Fantasy XIV Online, and Xbox players are finally on equal footing in the franchise’s ever-expanding universe.
