Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite will be getting a brand-new limited-time mode (LTM) called “Delulu”, where proximity chat takes center stage.

The mode will allow players to talk to,  and even team up with, nearby enemies, turning every match into a mix of alliances, betrayals, and chaos.

Release Details

According to dataminers like HYPEX, the Delulu LTM will launch on September 19, 2025, as a weekends-only event.

Here are the official details:

  • LTM with 80 players

  • Zero Build ruleset

  • Start solo and squad up mid-match using proximity chat

  • Join or leave squads at any time during a match

  • Must set Voice Chat to “Everyone” in settings to queue

This marks the first time Epic has introduced proximity chat in a Battle Royale-style mode, after previously limiting the feature to Fortnite Creative and UEFN custom islands.

How Delulu Works

At its core, Delulu plays like Zero Build, but with a major twist. Players drop in solo but can use proximity chat to negotiate alliances, trade, or even recruit temporary teammates on the fly. Of course, those alliances can be broken just as quickly, making betrayal part of the fun.

As the description reads:

"Fortnite: Delulu, where betrayal will make or break your chance at a Victory Royale! Use proximity voice chat to forge alliances on the fly, or break them just as fast. Don’t forget to watch your back."

If you’ve ever been frustrated by opponents teaming in regular matches, this mode flips that taboo into a core mechanic. Teaming outside of Delulu will still be bannable, but within this LTM, it’s fair game.

To join, players will need to ensure voice chat is turned on and set to "Everyone." Without that setting, you won’t be able to queue into the mode.

Community Reaction

Fans have had mixed responses since news of Delulu first surfaced in leaks earlier this month. On one side, players are excited about the potential for hilarious mid-game betrayals, wild trash talk, and endless YouTube or Twitch content. Others worry the addition could lead to toxic encounters, especially since Fortnite’s player base includes a large number of younger players.

That said, many in the community seem eager to try it out. As one fan joked on social media: “Epic doesn’t know it yet, but this mode is going to give us hours of the funniest compilations before they tweak it later.”

Proximity chat has already proven to be a fan-favorite feature in games like Call of Duty: Warzone, known for producing some of the most unpredictable in-game moments. By bringing the mechanic into Fortnite, Epic is testing whether its own community will embrace the same kind of unscripted chaos.

The Delulu LTM doesn’t change the rules of Fortnite’s core playlists; teaming in solos, duos, and squads is still against the rules and reportable. Instead, it provides a dedicated space where players can experiment with alliances and backstabbing in a structured, limited setting.
