Warner Bros. has teamed up with Fortnite to promote Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film One Battle After Another, which is set to hit theaters on September 26, 2025.
The brief teaser features Fortnite mascot Jonesy reenacting a key moment from the movie — a payphone scene originally performed by Leonardo DiCaprio’s character. It’s short (just five seconds), but it’s already got people talking.
What’s especially notable is that this isn’t an official Epic Games-sponsored crossover. Instead, it’s a promotional tie-in designed by Warner Bros. to target Fortnite’s massive, youth-heavy audience — a group not typically familiar with Anderson’s work or the film’s literary roots.
As per reports, One Battle After Another is a $140 million+ action-comedy thriller loosely based on Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland.
The film brings together a powerhouse cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and others.
The story centers on a group of former revolutionaries who reunite for one last mission: to rescue a daughter from an old nemesis. It's a mix of political satire, action, and absurdist comedy — a blend that doesn’t fit neatly into any single genre, making marketing a bit of a challenge.
That’s likely why Warner Bros. is taking such a bold step. The Fortnite tie-in is a clear attempt to widen the film’s reach beyond traditional cinephiles and into the digital playground where millions of Gen Z players hang out daily.
So far, the in-game content is limited to the teaser. While fans are curious about possible Fortnite skins, emotes, or character bundles based on the film’s stars, nothing official has been announced yet. Previous collaborations between movies (like recent Superman and Fantastic Four) and Fortnite have included full-blown cosmetics and in-game events — and players are definitely hoping for more than just a cameo this time around.
