A Fortnite player has been permanently banned and ordered to pay $175,000 in damages after Epic Games won a lawsuit against them for using cheating tools during a competitive event.

The legal action kicked off on December 18, 2024, when Epic revealed it had filed a lawsuit against the player for using both unauthorized software and hardware in a Fortnite tournament. The player attempted to avoid detection by switching between multiple accounts, but Epic’s anti-cheat systems quickly picked up on the behavior.

Epic didn’t mince words back then, stating clearly: “Cheating has no place in Fortnite and we’re doing everything we can to stop it, including legal action.” The statement set the tone for how seriously the company treats competitive integrity.

Fast forward to June 25, 2025, and the case came to a close with the court siding with Epic. According to the company, the defendant ignored the lawsuit, resulting in a default judgment. The court ordered the player to pay $175,000, and Epic confirmed that any money recovered will be donated to charity. Alongside the hefty fine, the player has been permanently banned from playing Fortnite.

Sharing the update on social media, Fortnite Competitive posted:

“The Judge ruled in our favor after the cheater ignored our lawsuit. The player is required to pay $175,000 and we’ll donate what we collect to charity. They are also banned from playing Fortnite forever.”

Interestingly, this isn’t Epic’s first legal move against cheaters. Earlier in February 2025, another player known as RepulseGod admitted to account sharing in the 2023 Fortnite Championship Grand Finals. They too were banned from all future Fortnite tournaments, and their prize money was redirected to charity.
