Forza Horizon 5 is on the verge of hitting 3 million copies sold on PS5 alone— and it’s about to overtake Astro Bot, last year’s Game of the Year.

That’s right, the hit Xbox racing game is speeding through Sony territory, and after just over two months on PlayStation 5, it’s sitting at nearly 2.9 million sales. According to Alinea Analytics, June alone saw the game move 555,000 units, thanks in part to a price cut to $48 that lasted until June 11. That boost helped Forza Horizon 5 climb to the 5th spot in the monthly charts — a huge feat for a game that originally launched on Xbox years ago.

Even more impressive? This makes Forza Horizon 5 the first Xbox-published port to reach such numbers on PlayStation hardware — and it’s done it in under three months. The game had already pulled off a strong start, selling 1.2 million copies in its first week by May 5. Now, it’s nearly caught up with Astro Bot, which was one of PlayStation’s big 2024 exclusives and took home the Game of the Year trophy at The Game Awards.

While Forza Horizon 5 hasn't passed Astro Bot in PS5 sales just yet, it’s basically a matter of days now. The momentum is still there, and if another discount rolls around, it’ll likely surge past that milestone with ease. It's a big win for Xbox's new multiplatform approach — and clearly, PlayStation players are here for it.

Industry expert Mat Piscatella from Circana also shed light on the game’s performance in the U.S. market. While he didn’t share exact sales figures, he did confirm that Forza Horizon 5 became the second best-selling game in April 2025, leaping from 42nd place in March. It continued its impressive run into May, holding the 3rd spot behind major releases like Elden Ring: Nightreign and Doom: The Dark Ages.

This breakout run also sparks some interesting questions about the future of exclusives. With Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox Series X and S in August, all eyes will be on whether Sony can pull off a similar success story on Microsoft’s turf. If it mirrors Forza’s success, the door could open wider for more cross-platform releases from both sides.

Either way, Forza Horizon 5 has made its mark. Nearly 3 million PS5 players have jumped into the driver’s seat, and that number’s still climbing.
