Forza Horizon 6 Set for Tokyo Game Show 2025 Reveal — Japan Setting Teased

Updated: Oct 20

A sleek black sports car drifts with pink petals in the air against a snowy mountain and vibrant pink sky. Dynamic and vibrant scene.

Forza Horizon 6 is expected to be officially unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show 2025, with several reports hinting at a major announcement Playground Games and Xbox during the event.

According to Windows Central, documentation reviewed by the outlet strongly suggests that the next installment in the popular open-world racing franchise will take center stage at TGS 2025, scheduled to run from September 25–28 in Japan.

The site also notes that the reveal makes sense given Xbox’s growing push in the Japanese market and the long-standing fan requests for a Japan-based Horizon Festival.

Adding weight to this, Nate the Hate — a reliable industry insider — corroborated the report, although he mentioned that he wasn’t certain whether a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game was being considered.

The potential Tokyo showcase aligns with the recent wave of speculation sparked by a now-deleted Instagram post from Australian car import company Cult & Classic. The post featured a Playground Games staff member scanning a Japanese Kei car, fueling discussions that Forza Horizon 6 could finally be set in Japan. While this isn’t hard confirmation, it certainly matches the rumored setting.

Fans have been calling for Japan as a Horizon destination since the very first game, largely because of the country’s deep car culture, unique environments, and variety of iconic vehicles. If Microsoft does choose Tokyo Game Show for the reveal, it would serve as the perfect stage to highlight a Japan-inspired setting, considering the event’s cultural and industry significance.

In terms of expectations, Forza Horizon 6 is likely to be built on the upgraded ForzaTech engine, the same technology behind Forza Motorsport (2023) and the upcoming Fable reboot. This means players can anticipate major visual upgrades, more advanced driving physics, and potentially the most ambitious Horizon map to date. The game will also have support from Turn 10 Studios, which suggests a larger scope and more polished mechanics.

Forza Horizon 5, launched in 2021, is still one of Xbox’s most successful releases, especially after arriving on PlayStation earlier this year. However, Playground has now wound down new content updates for FH5, choosing instead to recycle past Festival Playlists — a clear sign that the studio is shifting its focus to the sequel.

Platform availability is another big question. FH6 will certainly arrive on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Xbox Game Pass at launch, but whether it makes its way to PlayStation on day one is less certain. Given FH5’s success on Sony’s platform, many expect a delayed release, likely six months to a year after the Xbox launch.

UPDATE: "The teams at Playground Games and Turn 10 have poured their hearts into Forza Horizon 6, bringing Japan to life like never before," said Xbox exec Matt Booty, finally making the game's reveal official at the event.
