Accessory maker Genki has officially responded to the lawsuit filed by Nintendo.

The legal clash follows a heated few months after Genki showcased what it claimed were accessories built using "exact replica" specs of the then unannounced Nintendo Switch 2 console at CES 2025.

On May 2, Nintendo filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in California, accusing Genki of sharing unofficial mockups and renderings of the Switch 2, confusing fans, and misrepresenting the compatibility of their products.

According to Nintendo, Genki was never authorized to access any pre-release hardware, and the company made it clear they believe Genki’s actions misled the public.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on May 5, Genki addressed the situation publicly for the first time:

“You may have seen that Nintendo recently filed a lawsuit against us. We’re taking it seriously and working with legal counsel to respond thoughtfully”.
“What we can say is this: Genki has always been an independent company focused on building innovative gaming accessories for the community we love. We’re proud of the work we’ve done, and we stand by the quality and originality of our products.”

Despite the lawsuit, Genki isn’t slowing down. The company confirmed it will still be attending PAX East on May 8, where it plans to unveil its latest lineup of accessories.

What Sparked the Legal Firestorm?

The controversy began in January 2025, when Genki claimed to have created products based on a Switch 2 "replica" during CES.

While it’s common for accessory manufacturers to receive specs or prototype dimensions ahead of time, Nintendo insists it shared nothing with Genki. In fact, reports suggest that Nintendo’s legal team visited Genki’s CES booth in person, prompting the company to shut down their showcase a full day before the event ended.

As part of the lawsuit, the gaming giant is seeking to halt all promotion, sales, and marketing of Genki’s Switch and Switch 2-related products.

These days, Nintendo has been active on several legal fronts, from the Palworld lawsuit to prosecuting hackers and streamers who shared or played their titles before their official release. A man in Japan was even sentenced to prison for selling modded Switch systems.
