The German Computer Game Awards 2026 wrapped up with some well-deserved wins across 15 categories, distributing a total of €800,000 in prize money to some standout titles.
Blue Prince, the indie puzzle-adventure from Dogubomb and published by Raw Fury, took home the Best International Game award. The game launched in April 2025 and quickly earned a reputation as one of the more creative releases of the year. It blends roguelike and strategy elements into a genre-defying experience, and critics have been generous with praise, including an IGN Editors' Choice nod. The Best International Game category carries no prize money, but the recognition at an event of this scale is a win in itself.
On the German side of things, The Darkest Files by Paintbucket Games had a strong night. It won both Best German Game and Best Serious Game, walking away with €140,000 in total prize money.
The full list of winners breaks down as follows:
Best German Game (€100,000): The Darkest Files (Paintbucket Games)

Tiny Bookshop, the cozy narrative sim developed by Neoludic Games out of Cologne, had a notable showing as well. The game picked up the Newcomer Award for Best Debut and was also nominated for Best German Game. It was released in August 2025 and is available across PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Mac.
Ubisoft Mainz's Anno 117: Pax Romana claimed Best Innovation and Technology. The city-builder launched in November 2025 and was also in the running for Best German Game, though it ultimately lost out to The Darkest Files in that category.
The Berlin Apartment, developed by Berlin-based indie studio Blue Backpack, had a quietly impressive evening. It picked up both Best Graphic Design and Best Story, which is a strong double win for a story-driven first-person adventure game. The game came out in November 2025 and has clearly left an impression on the jury.
The awards are organised by the German Federal Government, represented by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, in partnership with the German Games Industry Association, known as Game. Felix Falk, managing director of Game, had this to say about the night: "We warmly congratulate all winners of the German Computer Game Awards 2026 and are delighted by a fantastic evening of outstanding games and gripping stories."
He also touched on the broader ambition behind the event. "The winning titles are a powerful showcase for the quality of games made in Germany and we want to see even more of that in the years ahead. It is now vital to seize this momentum together with the Federal Government to further strengthen our studios in global competition and put them in the spotlight on the international stage."
