Sucker Punch Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment have officially unveiled Ghost of Yōtei, a standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, launching exclusively for PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.
The announcement comes alongside a gripping new story trailer titled “The Onryō’s List”, offering a deep dive into the game’s new heroine, Atsu, and her quest for vengeance.
Atsu’s Journey: Vengeance, Freedom, and the Yōtei Six
Set in 1603 Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido), Ghost of Yōtei follows Atsu, a survivor of a brutal attack by a notorious gang known as the Yōtei Six. After being left for dead and pinned to a burning ginkgo tree, Atsu rises to become a deadly warrior, determined to dismantle the group one by one.
The Yōtei Six—The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito—each have their own backstories and territories.
The PlayStation Blog post reveals that players will have significant freedom in how they approach this revenge quest. Unlike the more linear structure of Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei allows players to decide which Yōtei Six member to pursue first, following leads and tracking targets as they see fit.
The open world is more dynamic, with players able to build a campfire anywhere in the open world and track down “Weapon Sensei” to unlock new abilities.
Combat features new weapons like Dual Katanas, and Atsu will be accompanied by a wolf companion who assists in battles. The trailer also showcases enhanced traversal mechanics that players can utilize to navigate the world of Ezo.

A Key PS5 Exclusive Amidst a Competitive Lineup
The release date confirmation follows Taiwanese ratings board leaks, which hinted the game was nearly finished. Ghost of Yōtei will now arrive later than some rumors suggested (July), but its October 2 slot avoids clashes with major titles like Death Stranding 2 (June) and Marathon (September). However, GTA VI looms large, still expected before year’s end unless delayed to 2026.
With its bold new direction, striking visuals, and emotionally charged narrative, Ghost of Yōtei is shaping up to be one of PlayStation’s marquee exclusives for the year.
