Key Highlights
Final Fantasy XVI is the clear headliner this month. Developed and published by Square Enix, it launched on PS5 back in June 2023 before making its way to PC and later Xbox. The game marked a significant shift for the long-running series, trading in the traditional turn-based systems for fast-paced, combo-driven real-time combat built around protagonist Clive Rosfield and his powerful Eikon summons. The story is a dark, politically charged fantasy set in the world of Valisthea, praised widely for its emotional depth and cinematic presentation. It holds a Metacritic score of 87 and is widely regarded as a bold evolution for the franchise, even if some players took issue with the lighter RPG structure and uneven side content.
Sonic X Shadow Generations, developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega, released in October 2024 and has since been recognized as one of the better recent entries in the Sonic franchise. The package bundles a remastered version of Sonic Generations with an entirely new standalone campaign starring Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow's campaign introduces time manipulation mechanics and offers a fresh narrative alongside the classic high-speed platforming the series is known for. It has been warmly received across the board, with particular praise for how polished and enjoyable Shadow's side of the game feels.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance takes a different approach entirely. Developed by Warhorse Studios, this realistic medieval RPG puts players in the role of Henry, a blacksmith's son navigating 15th-century Bohemia in historically grounded first-person gameplay. The combat, stealth, and dialogue systems are all built around consequence and realism rather than fantasy spectacle. It launched back in 2018 and became something of a cult favorite for its uncompromising approach to world-building.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure, developed by Deck Nine and published by Square Enix, brings back fan-favourite protagonist Max Caulfield in a brand-new supernatural murder mystery. Released in late 2024, the game uses a dual-timeline mechanic where players shift between two versions of the same world to uncover the truth. It has been received positively for its writing and emotional storytelling, widely seen as a strong return for the series.
Blades of Fire is the freshest addition to the lineup, having launched in May 2025. Developed by MercurySteam, the studio behind Metroid Dread, it is a third-person action game with a distinctive weapon-forging system at its core. Players craft and master weapons using an ancient hammer in a dark fantasy world where metal itself has turned to stone. The directional combat system, where face buttons control swing direction, sets it apart mechanically. Reception has been mixed but generally positive, with most praise landing on the creative crafting systems and combat ideas.
Farming Simulator 25, developed and published by GIANTS Software, rounds out the more niche end of the catalog. It launched in November 2024 and is considered one of the strongest entries the series has produced, offering an expanded suite of farming mechanics, new maps, improved visuals, and robust multiplayer support. It holds a Very Positive rating on Steam and appeals well beyond its core audience for its surprisingly deep and relaxing gameplay loop.
Black Desert, developed by Pearl Abyss, is an online sandbox MMORPG that has been running since 2015 on PC and arrived on consoles in 2019. It is best known for its stunning visuals, deeply customizable characters, and fluid action-based combat. The game offers an enormous amount of content spanning naval battles, life skills like fishing and trading, and massive open-world exploration. Reception has historically been mixed due to its complex systems and monetisation model, but it maintains a dedicated and active player base.
For Premium subscribers, the Classics Catalog brings Gitaroo Man, a rhythm-action cult classic originally released on PS2 in 2001. Developed by iNiS and published by Koei, the game follows U-1 in guitar-based story battles with a wildly creative visual style and a memorable rock soundtrack. It is short but beloved, frequently cited as one of the more underrated gems of its era.
