PS Plus Monthly Subscription Prices Just Increased

Sony has raised the price of PS Plus "Essential" subscriptions for new members, effective May 20, 2026.

The price hike covers markets in USD, EUR, and GBP. New subscribers will now pay more for both the one-month and three-month plans. Here is a breakdown of the updated pricing:

  • One-month PS Plus Essential: $10.99 / €9.99 / £7.99 (up from $9.99 / €8.99 / £6.99)

  • Three-month PS Plus Essential: $27.99 / €27.99 / £21.99 (up from $24.99 / €24.99 / £19.99)

That works out to roughly a $1 increase on the monthly plan and a $3 bump on the three-month option. Annual plan pricing has not been touched, at least for now.

Sony cited "ongoing market conditions" as the reason behind the adjustment. That phrase has become a bit of a go-to line for tech companies in 2026, and it typically points to factors like tariff-related pressures or rising memory costs. PS Plus is a digital service, but it does rely on server infrastructure for cloud saves and online multiplayer. So operating costs are likely a real factor here.

According to Sony's official statement, existing subscribers are largely protected. "This price change does not apply to current subscribers (except in Turkey and India) unless the existing subscription changes or lapses." If a subscription is cancelled or the plan is modified in any way, the new rates kick in automatically. Subscribers in Turkey and India have no such protection, with the new prices applying immediately.

This is not the first time Sony has adjusted its pricing recently. The company raised PS5 hardware prices in the US last year and followed up with a more global hardware price hike in March 2026. The PS5 with a disc drive now retails for $650 ($100 jump).

The broader gaming industry has been navigating similar pressure. Nintendo announced in early May that Switch 2 console prices will increase by $50 in the US starting September 1, 2026. Microsoft, on the other hand, took a different route. After raising Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to $30 per month, new Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma reversed the decision fairly quickly following backlash from players.
