Grand Theft Auto 6-related clothing strings have appeared in GTA Online’s latest update, pointing to assets aligned with Rockstar’s newer tech.

If you’ve been combing Los Santos for hints about GTA 6, you’re not alone. Fans have suspected for years that Rockstar quietly seeds teases in GTA Online, and lately those breadcrumbs feel more deliberate. As development on GTA 6 ramps up, we’ve seen subtle nods, car liveries referencing Vice City, fresh vehicle models, and now, clothing items that look like they were built for the next-gen pipeline rather than GTA 5.

Following the November 13 update, dataminers spotted something interesting in the backend. Leaker Lucas7Yoshi flagged that several clothing asset strings match Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 6 conventions, not the older GTA 5/GTA Online format. According to the leaker, both RDR2 and GTA 6 use PBR (physically based rendering) and a newer character system called “metapeds,” which comes with a different texture and asset naming structure. In short, the clothes don’t just look newer, they’re named like they belong to Rockstar’s modern stack.

One standout item is a pair of boxer shorts covered in love hearts. Long-time players will recognize them from past GTA titles like San Andreas and Liberty City Stories. Interestingly, this exact pair has been part of GTA Online since the 2014 Valentine’s Day massacre update, meaning it’s been sitting there unnoticed for over a decade.

Lucas7Yoshi did caution that a few assets might simply be the result of artists using the wrong workflow, but he emphasized that the “metaped” naming is the clearest sign these items were intended for GTA 6.

Rockstar has a history of backporting assets, so it wouldn’t be surprising if some of these items eventually appear in Vice City when GTA 6 launches.
