Supergiant Games has once again captured the spotlight. With the full release of Hades 2 on September 25, the roguelike sequel has stormed past expectations, quickly climbing to the top of Metacritic’s charts as the highest-rated game of 2025.

The original Hades was already considered an all-time great, with its gripping story of Zagreus and tightly designed gameplay loop. This time around, the spotlight shifts to his sister, Melinoë, and fans were naturally cautious. Could a sequel ever live up to such a masterpiece? Based on early reviews and player response, the answer is a resounding yes.
How Does Hades 2 Score on Metacritic?
Hades 2 currently boasts impressive Metacritic scores of 95/100 on PC, 98/100 on Nintendo Switch, and 94/100 on Nintendo Switch 2. For comparison, the original Hades holds a universal score of 93/100.
That puts Hades 2 ahead of some heavyweights released this year, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Blue Prince. Even if the score dips slightly as more reviews roll in, the sequel has already secured its place among the year’s best-reviewed titles.
On Steam, the game holds a 95% positive rating out of 75,000 reviews, reflecting both critical and community praise.
Where Does Hades 2 Rank Among 2025’s Best Games?

A Record-Breaking Year for Supergiant
According to data from Alinea Analytics, Hades 2 has already sold over two million copies during early access, generating more than $50 million in revenue. Around 1.5 million of those sales happened within the first two months of early access alone.
The game’s popularity also translated into record-breaking player counts. Over the weekend following launch, Hades 2 hit a peak of 112,947 concurrent players on Steam, doubling the peak set by the original Hades, which is 54,240 (via SteamDB).
For now, Hades 2 is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2, with a physical edition set to release on November 20, 2025. While there’s no PlayStation 5 or Xbox release yet, Supergiant has hinted that ports may arrive later, just like with the original Hades.
