The Hero Esports Asian Champions League (ACL), Asia’s first international multi-title esports tournament, concluded on May 18 in Shanghai with a string of high-stakes matches and pivotal qualifications for the upcoming Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025.
$2 Million Prize Pool Across Nine Games
Hosted by Hero Esports in partnership with ESL Gaming and DreamHack, the ACL brought together top-tier teams across nine game titles, including Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Honor of Kings, Crossfire, and more. The Grand Finals spanned three venues across Shanghai from May 16 to 18.
Each game’s winner not only took home prize money, but also secured a direct qualification to the EWC 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Dota 2: Xtreme Gaming Qualifies for $3M EWC Showdown
One of the biggest results came in Dota 2, where Xtreme Gaming narrowly edged out Team Tidebound 3-2 in a hard-fought final. The match marked a turning point for Xtreme, whose recent roster changes had cost them a slot at ESL One Raleigh 2025.
The victory grants Xtreme Gaming:
$100,000 in prize money
A direct invite to the Dota 2 tournament at EWC 2025, which boasts a $3 million prize pool
Xtreme becomes the sixth team confirmed for the Riyadh event, joining Team Spirit, BetBoom Team, PARIVISION, Team Falcons, Team Liquid, and Gaimin Gladiators. Nine more spots remain, with regional qualifiers running from June 5–13.
Valorant: DRX Dominates, Takes Down Paper Rex
In the Valorant Champions Tour event, DRX took down regional rivals Paper Rex 3-1 in the final, booking their place at the EWC. DRX's players Estrella and HYUNMIN delivered standout performances, each securing over 50 kills during the series.

With the ACL now concluded, Asia has secured a strong presence at the Esports World Cup 2025, set to run from July 8–19 at Boulevard Riyadh City.
As the largest international esports event in the world, EWC 2025 will offer massive $70 million prize pools across 25 competitions.
