Future Hollow Knight Titles Could Sit Alongside Silksong, Says Team Cherry

Team Cherry has hinted that more Hollow Knight games could arrive in the future, though they wouldn’t necessarily act as direct sequels to Silksong or the original Hollow Knight. Instead, the studio envisions each entry as a standalone companion piece, designed to sit alongside the others without requiring players to know the full lore beforehand.

This tease comes from a recent interview with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), conducted ahead of Silksong’s release (via GamesRadar+). Studio leads Ari Gibson and William Pellen spoke about their philosophy when developing the series. When asked how they would define success, both agreed that launching Silksong with “no major bugs” was a key goal. Pellen added that the real achievement was already complete: “We had an idea for a game that we wanted to make, and we wanted to make the best version of that game.”
Gibson echoed those thoughts, explaining that Silksong was designed to “stand alongside Hollow Knight” rather than replace it. He described the two titles as complementary, branching off in different directions but still connected by style and tone. “It’s nice developing something where there’s no tech race,” Gibson said. “We’re not trying to push boundaries; we have a very set style, it’s pretty simple.”
Perhaps the most intriguing comment came when Gibson suggested that if more Hollow Knight games were ever made, they would follow the same pattern: existing alongside one another rather than forming a linear series. It means you could jump into any future Hollow Knight release without worrying about missing key story beats from earlier games.
Of course, this is still hypothetical. Team Cherry hasn’t confirmed new projects beyond Silksong, but the idea of expanding the universe with companion titles feels very much alive. Considering the success of Silksong, it’s easy to imagine the studio exploring more stories in this world.
