Team Cherry has officially confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will release on September 4, 2025, ending years of speculation and anticipation.
The announcement came through a new two-minute trailer that dropped today, showcasing a wealth of fresh gameplay.
Fans got a glimpse of Hornet’s journey through Pharloom, including eerie graveyards, swamplands, and a bustling insect-filled city. The trailer also teased over 200 enemies and more than 40 bosses, along with tense escape sequences reminiscent of Ori and the Blind Forest.
First unveiled in 2019, the sequel was originally planned as DLC for the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight before growing into a standalone game. Since then, Team Cherry has gone silent for long stretches, leaving fans clinging to every tease or leak.
The game first reappeared at the Xbox Bethesda Showcase in 2022, where Microsoft stated it would arrive within 12 months. That promise, like many from that showcase, didn’t hold.
The excitement reignited this summer when Silksong was made playable at Gamescom 2025, followed by a short tease at Opening Night Live hosted by Geoff Keighley. Now it's finally coming.
As a Metroidvania title, Hollow Knight: Silksong keeps the DNA of its predecessor — challenging combat, atmospheric storytelling, and exploration-driven gameplay.
The game will launch across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2, with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass.
The original Hollow Knight has sold more than 15 million copies as of August 2025.
